  * Shiva and Parvathi were watching over a fight between Devas and Asuras.
  * Whoever was blessed by Shiva won over the war.
  * But Devas and Vishnu were swelling with pride
  * Shiva installed a blade of grass to be won over by them. They could not.
  * He then asked them to stay at Kanchipuram and worship him as Linga roopam  which is the Lingam as installed in this temple.
