- The temple has a legend of Magasandhan munivar who was disturbed by Lord Indran because Indran thought the penance is for his position.Magasandhar turned into an elephant and lived with them forgetting his true form.he is also believed to have visited temples as elephant itself.
- This temple is also associated with primary disciple of Ramanujar, Sri Koorathazhwar. His original name was Kooresan as he hailed from Kooram.
